Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to seniors and the critically ill. Project Open Hand offers two types of volunteering before and on Thanksgiving Day: food prep or food delivery -- there are morning and afternoon food prep shifts, as well as a few different food delivery shifts before and on Thanksgiving day. Food prep shifts entail working in Project Open Hand's San Francisco kitchen to help slice, dice, chop, and peel all of the food that goes into meals for clients. Each shift includes an orientation and a complimentary lunch. Sign-up well in advance; Thanksgiving shifts fill up very quickly!
Dates: Before and on Thanksgiving Day
Ages: Kitchen prep volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Delivery volunteers must be 10 years or older (all volunteers under 15 must be accompanied by an adult)
Length of shifts: Food prep shifts are 2.5 - 3 hours
Location: 730 Polk Street, San Francisco
How to sign up: Project Open Hand Holiday Volunteering web site - (Sign ups usually begin on November 1 for Thanksgiving volunteering and on December 1 for Christmas volunteering)
